Kōwhai Midwives Collective

We are a collective of experienced midwives equally sharing the care of our clients.

Sharing a passion for midwifery, we have chosen to work as a team. We provide excellent evidence based and individualised care. Our holistic approach supports every type of whanau to birth wherever you choose; in hospital or at home.

Team-based approach

Kowhai Collective Group- Midwifery

Our team-based approach to midwifery care ensures that clients reap the benefits of our collective wisdom.

All clients will have the opportunity to form relationships with Aisling, Sarah, Sharn and Sarah prior to the birth; we will provide seamless care before during and for up to 1 week after the birth. The four of us are specialised at providing safe and effective antenatal (40 weeks prior to birth) care and evidence-based education. As a team we provide 24/7 on-call labour and birth care.

Kelsey and Holly are a very important part of Kowhai Midwife Collective, forming our specialist postnatal team. One of them will take over your care within the first week following the birth. By the time you meet your postnatal midwife, she will have a good understanding of your individual birth experience and your particular requirements.

Kelsey and Holly are the experts you need to navigate your parenting journey for another 5 weeks. They have lots of experience with breastfeeding and are on board with all the most recent research for postnatal care. Then comes a seamless hand-over with your chosen Well Child provider (Tamariki Ora/ Plunket).

Meet the team

Your care is at the heart of why we have strived to set up a collective practice:

Ensure gold-standard safety

To keep clients and whānau safe, it’s important to have a strong network to prevent midwife fatigue and support clear thinking.

Dedicated & passionate midwifery support

Shared care will ensure your dedicated team of midwives will remain passionate about the profession and ready to listen and support you.

Ensure sustainable practice

Over the many years of working as self-employed/ Lead Maternity Care (LMC) midwives; we have experienced the kind of pressure and stress which leads to burn-out. In order to sustain our practice we have learned to share the load and provide more specialised care.

The Kōwhai Clinic is located at 140 Carlyle Street, Napier.

Shared with other specialists focusing on women’s health. The space is modern, chic and well-equipped with everything required. We use a state-of the art Maternity Software Provider to ensure your information is kept secure, and is able to be shared between midwives, which ensures nothing gets missed throughout your care.
